I use a special screen that magnifies everything to supersize so I can read, so I might be missing this. I got my first door installed and running it is called planets the exploration of space. Thank you for all the help. Now trying to track down the author to register it. Last updated 2001, lol will I find him?

I registered it in 2010, sent in payment and got a registration code.. I remember going to Gameport:
    https://www.gameport.com/bbs/planets.html

But soon after that, I started to see people saying they were becoming unresponsive and hard to get a registration code from them. Their web site is still up though and has pages to register Planets: The Exploration of Space, LORD, and some other doors. Maybe you can try contacting them first to make sure you can still register it.

Well, I've been waiting 3 minutes for the website to load and it won't..

Lol.. I finally gave up on it after a couple more minutes.. let me try again..

it's making the initial connection to gameport.com, but then hangs up trying to connect to p.moreover.com so it just sits there blank.

I will let it run unregistered. I got it running thanks to all of you and the helpful notes. I consider it a success after all.

does synchronet provide the fossil or uart or is this something i need to add to the bbs? run it through a batch file?

You don't need to run anything through a batch file.

Synchronet for Windows comes with its own virtual UART / FOSSIL driver. https://wiki.synchro.net/monitor:sbbsexec

A UART is the physical serial/comm port/device. A "virtual UART driver" creates a software virtual UART for DOS software to see/talk to as if it's a talking to a physical UART.

There's more than one "web interface" for Synchronet. I assume you're referring to ecWeb. Maybe try using the traditional BBS interface for messaging instead?

This is just a theory as I have not
seen or used that web interface, but
what if you accidentally move your
cursor to the quoted area, pressed
enter to go to a new line, and started
typing there? I think I have seen
message editors get confused like that
and just keep adding >'s to newly typed

Whoa! This is gonna blow some minds, and some pre-conceived notions.

I am pretty sure he mentioned in another message that he is visually
impaired. I would not call myself impaired but I do require some serious corrections. Sometimes I miss characters on the web interface, especially
the "runes" one. In SLMR, not so much. ;)

I may have missed that, but it doesn't explain the complete lack of
quoting, or even trying to. That's more of a "concept" thing.

Yeah... I don't even bother with a web interface, it's not what a BBS
    is, to me.

If I didn't like MultiMail so much, especially that it's native Linux,
I'd be using SLMR too. That was my everyday driver a few decades ago!

webv4 doesn't do "live" quoting or any kind of real time mangling of a message you're composing. You click the "quote" button, it wraps and quotes the reply-to message and pastes it into the text input, that's it. You hit enter on any line at that point, you get a new blank line.
